    Men dominated Athens. Men could only be a citizen and only wealthy could get an education. Women were expected to take care of their children and stay at home. Women had absolutely no political say in Greek daily life. Slaves made up one fourth of Greek population. Slaves were usually captured prisoners of war. The slaves had to do most of the work, like work in the shipyards, mines, quarries, and do some domestic chores.

    Greek homes were around a courtyard and had no windows. In Greece, furniture was seldom in homes. Most of the day in Greece, people went outside to enjoy the fresh air and nice climate. Greeks mainly ate bread put in wine for breakfast. For lunch and dinner, Greeks ate fruits, vegetables, fish, and drank wine with both meals. Ancient Greeks only ate meat when it was a special occasion. This would include special holidays and special occasions.
